Friday, June 14

I can't believe it's Friday again!

Time for good news/bad news.

Good news: HealthSouth has accepted Penny and has everything ready to admit her.

Bad news: She wasn't able to be transferred yesterday, because she'd had a bit more gastrointestinal internal bleeding.

The gastroenterologist told us yesterday evening that her most recent labs looked better than her earlier labs, and all her vital signs were stable. He also told us that he wanted to do a bacterial culture and see how that comes back, so (I'm assuming) that will be done this morning. Since a colonoscopy carries some risk for Penny under the circumstances, he really doesn't want to do one unless he feels like he has to.

Once he clears her for transfer, she'll be transferred to HealthSouth.

In the meantime, the neurologist at Mercy is trying to get in touch with Dr. Patil at Cedars-Sinai to find out (from him) what happened. They're very concerned that without radiation treatment, rehab/physical therapy won't be particularly effective. Never thought I'd run across this particular "chicken and the egg" situation, but life is full of surprises.

Thank you all for your support. Penny may not be able to actually eat cookies and other goodies at the moment, but I know that even just having them on her table brings her comfort.
